The issues related to the so-called ‘wisdom tooth’ are manifold. However, in growing patients, these can be avoided by constantly checking the tooth evolution and, in the case, performing a ‘germectomy’ or a tooth extraction when this is not yet fully formed.
This practice is done when the tooth is not in the correct position, thus interfering with the teeth near it, or when space is needed in the back area for the orthodontic treatment plan. Germectomy is a good solution even when the tooth has an abnormal morphology or it is designed, based on space calculations, to be included in the bone.
